WELCOME TO THE

This is the de-facto Official Web Site of Filipino Indie Rock band
SHINING HATHAWAY.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
At the risk of sounding cliche, it's all about music and control. We are on a mission to prove once and for all that at the end of the day its individual creativity and inspiration that counts. We wish to introduce not only our songs, but also our methods  in home recording in the Philippine setting. We believe that artists should not only be armed with musical skills but also with some ideas on the production of that music thereby maintaining a relative control over their sound. New technology and methods have opened up new avenues for musicians and the time for Filipinos to break free from the chains of mediocrity and creative repression is NOW! (God, that was cheesy...)

what's new?

OK... it seems the recording has taken longer than I first thought. Had to address some major issues and we had to start all over again for the majority of the songs. The good news is it looks like we finally nailed the major problems especially with regards to recording drums. In any case, things are looking up and watch this space for new songs soon.

Good Lord! I can't believe that I haven't done anything since June! I guess my damn day job caught up with me when my partner in the department left... so since then I've been taking up the slack. Anyway, I have a few months of catching up to do... so let me start:

We bought some new equipment! Moi was getting less and less satisfied with the drum track quality (honestly so was I) so we decided to get a bigger mixer and some more decent mics. We've begun re-recording some old songs and have made progress on some new ones. The problem now is me... I'm having a backlog on songs! I haven't laid instruments on five songs which drum tracks we've already finished. Now as soon as we get our bass guitar back (hopefull tonight) I'll get crackin' on em. The new equipment by the way is worth every buck. Expect nicer, clearer and better sounding recordings. As usual, we'll be posting them as they get done. Long vacations are coming up and with Christmas season nearing, that means more time for some REAL work.

Onto other things: Well, the tennis season is over. Nothing for me to look forward to until next year. Basketball season has begun, but I don't really pay attention to that until April so that leaves me with.... FOOTBALL! And no, not American Football, I mean Football where you actually use your feet (some people call it "soccer"). Got into it rather late, but damn I gotta tell you, there is nothing more fun and exciting than rooting for the Gunners (or if you're not a Gooner, whatever team you're rooting for) on TV with a bunch of fellow gooners over big bottles of beer. Nothing mates, nothing is more fun... that is assuming they win (cause if they dont, then nothing, nothing could be worse!).

That's all the updates for now. I'll try my best not to get my day job get the bast of me by getting to update this more often. Hopefully in two weeks I can get a song posted too! STAY TUNED!

We decided to overhaul ALL of our songs and we start re-recording this Sunday. This might take awhile, but we will be starting with newer songs working back to the old ones. I'll update here as soon as we get the first ones mastered. In the meantime, we'll leave the old recordings online for your perusal. But please do note, the quality of the new ones will be much better. That at least I can promise.

Onto OTHER things... work and songwriting aside, I really haven't been getting enough sleep lately due to the Telecasts of the French Open. Despite the early exit of my favorite player, I strongly suggest you guys watch the semis and the Finals (on Saturday). This is tennis history in the making folks!

Well Summer here is all but officially over. The band has finished recording two more songs and we are working on a third. We just wrapped up recording of the drums yesterday and we should be ready with a sample mp3 by next week. Stay Tuned!

More thanks to the dudes at Studio Central BBS. We'll work on all those problems thanks to your comments.

Finally found time to upload remixes of the song on the download page. I upped the bass frequencies as much as I could without ruining the whole thing (hopefully). Please check them out.

On to other things, the UP Rural High School Batch '93 will be having a reunion on April 5. So if any one from that group of miscreants (LOL!) somehow get lost and find their way here, let me have the liberty of telling you to haul your mangy ass there next next Saturday. If you're a member of the Barracks Boys (yes you lazy bastard, YOU!) try to contact some of the boys in LB. We'll think of a way to go there. IMO, I think we should for the sake of the batch (was that cheesy or what?!)

Besides, it would be a shame to let all that BEER go to waste. (OH HO! So NOW I got your attention!)
